How PeopleWisher works: people, groups, schedules and channels

PeopleWisher sends the right greeting to the right person on their special day without you having to remember. It’s built from four simple pieces:

People → Groups → Schedule → Channels

A person (or contact) is someone you want to celebrate: a customer, a member of staff, a church member or a student. Each person has:

  • A name.
  • A celebration date, such as their birthday. Month and day are required. The year is optional, but adding it lets PeopleWisher show their age on greetings and graphics.
  • At least one way to reach them: email, phone (SMS) or WhatsApp. For children, you can add a guardian’s details instead.

You’ll find everyone in the People column on the left of the app.

Every person belongs to a group, such as Staff, Clients or Family. A group decides what kind of celebration it is (birthday, work anniversary, wedding anniversary or another anniversary) and how it is celebrated.

Everyone in a group shares one celebration schedule. If you want customers and staff to get different messages, put them in different groups. See Groups explained.

Each group has a Group Schedule. This is where you choose:

  • Which channels to use.
  • Which message (template) to send on each channel.
  • What time to send it, in the group’s time zone.
  • Optional extras such as graphics, social shoutouts and gifts.

When a group’s celebrations are on, PeopleWisher checks every day for people celebrating and sends their greetings by itself. See Set up a group schedule.

Channels are the ways a greeting can reach someone:

Channel What you need Cost
Email Connect your Gmail, Outlook or domain See Wallet and costs
SMS A sender ID Paid from your wallet
WhatsApp Your business WhatsApp number connected through Meta, and approved templates Paid from your wallet
Slack / Microsoft Teams Connect your workspace
Social shoutouts Connect your social accounts X posts are paid from your wallet

Each person gets the greeting on every channel that’s switched on for their group, as long as they have the right contact details (for example, a phone number for SMS).

Ada is in the Clients group. Clients have a birthday schedule with email at 9:00 am and WhatsApp at 10:00 am. On Ada’s birthday, PeopleWisher sends her the email at 9:00 and the WhatsApp message at 10:00, with her name filled in. You can see both in History afterwards.

  • Dashboard: upcoming celebrations, what was sent, and anything that needs your attention.
  • Schedule: every upcoming celebration, day by day.
  • History: a record of everything that was sent, with its delivery status.
